Risk Management Tools for Farmers and Ag Managers
2/8/2010 9:06:02 AM
Noel Mues, Extension Educator
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension Furnas County
Several new risk management tools have been developed for use by farmers and agricultural managers to help better position themselves for 2010.
2010 Crop Budgets – The UNL Extension Crop Budgets have been updated for 2010. The new budgets reflect changes in input costs and include industry advances such as SmartStax® seed. There are a total of 48 budgets available for corn, soybeans, alfalfa, wheat, grain sorghum, sunflowers, sugarbeets, dry beans, sorghum sudan, millet, pasture, oats, grass and grass hay.
Featured Resource: The history of land values and rental rates in Nebraska show they vary by geographic location and they are dynamic. Land value data is collected annually by USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Nebraska Farm Business Association, and published in various reports including the Nebraska Farm Real Estate Market Developments 2008-2009.
Data from these reports offer a perspective view of the agricultural land markets, trends in buyer/seller characteristics, changes in land values, and changes in rental rates.
